Liberty Round Table

Preliminary Statement to the Individual Declaration of Independence

The following is an Individual Declaration of Independence. When I undertook its writing, I had intended to copy only the general form of Thomas Jefferson's wonderful piece, to borrow from its stature... But in getting into it, I found that almost ALL of TJ's grievances apply to our current tyrants, only ours are much more shameless, confiscatory, and murderous. So I've kept 80% of what he wrote, updating the content (only a little of which didn't apply as written) but leaving the unique spiciness of the original style. For example, I changed:

"He has imposed Taxes on us without our Consent."
to:
"It has imposed Taxes on us without our Consent."

The biggest changes are that this version aims at true freedom and independence, not the mirage of "better" government, hence the change in emphasis from Laws to Rights, and so on... Being part Native Savage, I also took it upon myself to remove the original (admittedly mild for the time) racist content.

I recognize that not all those who desire greater liberty are ready to, as Walter Williams puts it, "secede individually from the union". That's fine. No one needs to be an anarchist to work on an LRT project, they just need to want to see the role of government diminish in our lives. No one needs to print out and sign this document to "join" LRT, nor to become a Knight of Non-Aggression, though anyone who would take that oath should not have any problems with this declaration.

I provide this document as a service to those who would like to joyously and seriously declare their freedom to the world. Personally, I've framed mine and it occupies a place of honor among the things hung on the walls of my home (and yes, I really did write it on July 4, 1996). I hope that many of you will do something similar.

Sincerely,

Don L. Tiggre
